Subjects to be studied

Students must earn 36 credits or more, including credits for the following subjects as listed in (1) to (6).

  1. One subject from Common Subject of the Graduate School: 1 credit
  2. Two subjects from Advanced Study on Library Science: 6 credits
  3. One subject from Fundamental Subjects:1 credit
  4. Two subjects from Project Team Learning (PTL) / Internship Subjects: 3 or 4 credits
  5. From Specialized Subjects:21 credits
  6. Following subjects: 4 or more credits
    (Please note that only 4 credits each from subjects 2 and 3 below will be accepted as required credits for graduation.)
    1. Subjects of the Library Science Course. Credits earned in categories (2) and (5) above are excluded.
    2. Subjects in other departments of this graduate school.
    3. Subjects in other graduate schools (including common subjects of the graduate schools).

Requirements for graduation:

Graduates are required to have been registered in this department for two years or more, earned 36 credits or more in accordance with the rules for earning credits as described below, passed an examination for their master’s thesis and passed a final assessment while receiving instructions from an advisor. However, attendance of one year or more is acceptable for a student who is recognized by the faculty council as having achieved excellent academic performance.

Specialized Subjects

Taking the three required subjects―“Advanced Study on Library Science” (12 credits), “Advanced Lectures on Library Science” (1 credit), and “Presentation Practice” (1 credit)—is the requirement for acquiring credits. Other than this, according to their background, admitted students may be advised to take class subjects available in the Master’s Program.

Requirements for graduation:

The requirements for graduation include five-year enrollment in the Doctoral Program (in the case of students who enrolled in the Master’s Program for at least two years and completed the relevant curriculum, the two-year enrollment is included in this period), acquisition of 14 credits from three required subjects, and to pass the screening of the doctoral thesis and final test after receiving necessary research guidance.

Regarding the enrollment period for students who have been recognized at a faculty meeting of our graduate school for their excellent research achievements, a term of at least three years can fulfill the requirement (in the case of students who enrolled in the Master’s Program for at least two years and completed the relevant curriculum, the two-year enrollment is included in this period). Targeted excellent research achievements must be “refereed article(s)” related to doctoral thesis.
