{"id":40,"date":"2020-09-24T14:51:58","date_gmt":"2020-09-24T05:51:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ifs.kyushu-u.ac.jp\/eng\/lss\/?page_id=40"},"modified":"2020-10-21T11:48:25","modified_gmt":"2020-10-21T02:48:25","slug":"lss-eng-01-03","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ifs.kyushu-u.ac.jp\/eng\/lss\/lss-eng-01\/lss-eng-01-03\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cEducation Purpose and Research\u201d and \u201cThree Policies\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Education purposes <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-accent-2-color\">With the development of the ICT environment and changes in laws and distribution systems as well as the progress of globalization,aivariety of problems concerning information management and provision occur one after another.This department strives to train personnel who can solve these issues by integrating knowledge of libraries and information science,archival science, information science,information law system, learning science, etc.,provide support for the creation and succession of users\u2019knowledge from users\u2019standpoints,and explore the future of information management and provision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Diploma Policy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Master\u2019s program<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-accent-2-color\">Students who complete this program will have the following skills and knowledge: firstly, the ability and expertise to play a central role in the fields of information management and provision in the documentation management departments of libraries, archives or other organizations, or information system or information service companies; secondly, the ability and attitude to put the acquired skills and expertise into practical use in information management and provision from the users\u2019 standpoints.<br>Specifically, the above skills and knowledge comprise the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-accent-2-color\">(1) Knowledge and understanding:<br> \u2013 The basics of information management and provision common to both library and information sciences and record management and archival sciences;<br> \u2013 The ability to illustrate construction methods and usage of information systems in relation to information management and provision;<br> \u2013 The ability to describe the social and legal aspects with regard to information management and provision;<br> \u2013 The ability to explain the basic theory of learning and communication using information technology;<br> \u2013 Understanding the methodology for investigation and the fundamentals of analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> (2) Skills:<br> (2-i) Expertise:<br> \u2013 To determine the nature of information for appropriate management and provision;<br> \u2013 To distribute information and collect data by using information systems;<br> \u2013 To investigate and analyze the needs of users seeking information concerning information management and provision;<br> \u2013 To explain the roles and limitations of their field of expertise to other experts in adjacent areas of expertise when working in a team with experts in different fields.<br> (2-ii)iGeneral aptitude:<br> \u2013 To gain an understanding of issues concerning current information management and provision;<br> \u2013 To plan information services in information managing and providing organizations from the users\u2019perspectives;<br> \u2013 To correctly understand the meaning of requests or demands from other experts inidifferent fields when working in collaboration with experts inidifferent fields to solve problems;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-accent-2-color\"> (3) Attitude and orentation:<br> \u2013 Toward collecting information with an interest in the issues, technology and methodology in the relevant fields outside their areas of expertise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Doctoral program <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-accent-2-color\">Students who complete this program will have the following skills and knowledge: firstly, the ability to independently conduct research; secondly, the ability and expertise to play aileading role in the fields of information management and provision in the documentation management departments of libraries, archives or other organizations, or information system or information service companies; thirdly, the ability to conduct researchion the future of information management and provision, from the users\u2019 standpoints, based on their acquired skills and expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> (1) Knowledge and understanding:<br> \u2013 To fully understand the ideas, theories and methods of, at least one of the following three areas; libraryiand information sciences, record management and archival sciences and information science with regard to information management and provision, and to illustrate the typical ideas, theories and methods of the remaining areas;<br> \u2013 To describe the social and legal aspects with regard to information management and provision;<br> \u2013 To explain the basic theory of learning and communication using information technology;<br> \u2013 Of the methodology for investigation and the fundamentals of analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> (2) Skills:<br> (2-i) Expertise:<br> \u2013 To solve problems by employing the knowledge of the above three areas, regardless of your expertise, if necessary.<br> (2-ii) General aptitude:<br> \u2013 To gain an understanding of issues concerning current information management and provision;<br> \u2013 To plan information services in information managing and providing organizations from the users\u2019 perspectives;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> (3) Attitude and orientation:<br> \u2013 To explore better mechanisms of information management and provision without restriction of traditional framework;<br> \u2013 To collect information with an interest in issues, ideas, technology and methodology in the relevant fields outside their areas of expertise.<br> \u2013 To conduct research independently, or in other words, to plan a research project, conduct literature searches, perform experiments or collect data, analyze and interpret or discuss the results, and describe the findings and outcomes accurately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Curriculum Policy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"mce_5\">Master\u2019s program<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-accent-2-color\">This Department will provide the following education:<br> \u2013 Education on library and information sciences and record management and archival sciences with regard to information management and provision;<br> \u2013 Education on information science, including data engineering, to achieve information management and provision;<br> \u2013 Education on the theories and skills required to understand the process of creation and succession of knowledge of human beings;<br> \u2013 Education on the current situation of the legal system of information law, by which information in electronic media should be covered, and its philosophy as well as education on information distribution system;<br> \u2013 Education inwhich students will be able to develop their skills to explore the future of information management and provision as well as new features of the \u201copportunity\u201d for supporting the creation and succession of knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-accent-2-color\">In consideration of the fact that there are students with social science backgrounds and those with natural science backgrounds in our department, to attain this education, our curriculum will be designed based on the following policy:<br> \u2013 The curriculum will be designed by focusing on library and information sciences, record management and archival sciences, and information science, from the perspective of information management and provision, as well as subjects relating to learning and communication and those relating to information law system, as relevant areas.<br> \u2013 With regard to the education on library and information sciences and record management and archival sciences, special consideration will be given to students who have not studied the basics of these subjects at undergraduate level before.<br> \u2013 We will provide education for students to develop their skills to explore the future of information management and provision as well as new features of the \u201copportunity\u201d for supporting the creation and succession of knowledge.<br> \u2013 With regard to the subjects of library and information sciences, record management and archival sciences and information science, the curriculum will be designed for students to effectively learn the basics subjects, advanced subjects and practicum in an understandable order, in accordance with the characteristics of each subject. Furthermore, subjects which will provide students with knowledge required in practicum will be taught in a term before the practicum will be conducted.<br> \u2013 To meet the diverse needs of students, a wide range of curriculum models will be prepared.
