The Department of Automotive Science opens its doors to new graduates of university undergraduate schools and master’s courses, to business persons who have experience working at private corporations and government offices, and to foreign students from various countries, in order to create an academic environment where various people represent a variety of specialties and backgrounds.

Qualifications for Application

Applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

  1. Those who have completed, or expect to complete by September 30,16 years of academic education of Japan.
  2. Those who have completed 16 years of formal education outside of Japan, and are recognized by our Graduate School to have received all the necessary credits and have earned an excellent academic record.
  3. Those who have been recognized by our Graduate School, based on an individual screening or requirements for admission, as having an academic ability equal to or surpassing that of students who have graduated from a Japanese university, and who will be at least 22 years of age by the entrance date.
Notes on application
  1. Those who have graduated or will graduate from a Japanese university must take a general selective examination.
  2. Applicants who intend to apply in accordance with qualification Ⅱ. & Ⅲ. must take an individual evaluation of their scientific abilities in relation to the requirements for admission before application.

Qualifications for Application

Applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

  1. Those who hold a Master’s degree or a Professional degree, or who will earn one by September 30.
  2. Those who hold a degree equivalent to a Master’s degree or a Professional degree from an accredited institution outside of Japan, or who will obtain one by September 30.
  3. Those who have completed their formal education by taking a correspondence course through a non-Japanese university while residing in Japan, and hold a degree equivalent to a Master’s degree or a Professional degree, or who will obtain one by September 30.
  4. Those who have earned a degree from a graduate program at an educational institution in a country outside of Japan, which has been assessed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan to be equivalent to a graduate program in the education system of Japan, or who will earn one by September 30.
  5. Those who have qualifications approved by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan.
    1. Those who, after graduating from a university or finishing 16 years of academic education outside of Japan, have engaged for two or more years in research at a university or a research institute, and have been recognized to have an academic ability equivalent to Master’s degree holders. This recognition is given by the Graduate School on the basis of his/her previous research.
    2. Those who, after finishing 16 years of academic education through correspondence course run by foreign educational establishments, have engaged for two or more years in research at a university or a research institute and have been recognized to have an academic ability equivalent to Master’s degree holders. This recognition is given by the Graduate School on the basis of his/her previous research.
  6. Those who are evaluated by an individual screening of requirements for admission to have an academic ability equal to or surpassing that of students who have graduated from the Master’s or Professional Program of the Graduate School and are at least 24 years of age.
Notes on application

Note that those who intend to apply in accordance with qualifications Ⅴ. & Ⅵ. to the Doctoral Course are required to submit an individual evaluation of their scientific ability in relation to the Requirements for Admission before application.

Research Student

(Only for those students not applying for MEXT scholarship thru Japanese Embassy recommendation in their country)

The Department of Automotive Science (AMS) has a program to permit a student to learn as a research student. This research program allows you to study up to 1 year before applying for a master’s / doctoral program. If you wish to be an AMS research student, please contact AMS teaching staff who will supervise you and follow his guidance, referring to the following information:

1.Qualification for Entrance

Those who hold a Bachelor’s degree or have been recognized to have an academic ability equivalent to Bachelor’s degree holders

2.Period of Application Submission

Those who apply for the research student program must submit necessary documents two months prior to their entrance.

  1. For those who wish to enter in April: by the end of February
  2. For those who wish to enter in October: by the end of August

Note that international students are required to make contact with the administration office a few months before their entrance because it takes time to follow a necessary admission procedure.

3. Application procedure

Those who apply for the research student program must submit necessary documents two months prior to their entrance.

  5. Examination Fee: 9,800 yen

In addition, international students are also required to submit following documents:

  1. Transcript of their final academic school and a letter of recommendation issued by the school
  2. Certificate of their Japanese language ability
4. Entrance Procedure

A letter will be posted to those who are formally permitted to enter by our Graduate School. After receiving the letter, the research students must pay following fees by the date mentioned in the letter:

  1. Entrance Fee: 84,600 yen
  2. Tuition Fee: 356,400 yen per year (29,700 yen per month)

Note

  1. Tuition fee of 178,200 yen for the first semester (from April to September) must be paid in April, and the same amount of fee for the second semester (from October to following March) must be paid in October.
  2. The amounts of fees are subject to change.
