Five Special Features

New Graduate School Education Focuses on Automotives

In order to produce talented individuals to the various areas of business, government and academia related to automobiles, as well as to the car industry itself, which is one of the most important industries in Japan,the Department of Automotive Science defines its reason for existence as automotive innovation, and is committed to offering new graduate school education with the following five features.

1. Major and Minor Field System

By studying major field and its relevant minor field, students can develop an elastic way of thinking, as well as find insights by which they can utilize advanced specialties for practical applications.

2. Faculty Members from Business, Government and Academic Fields

The faculty members consist of experts in automobile research from Kyushu University as well as from private and public car sector leaders, including the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Universities including Fukuoka Women’s University, Seinan Gakuin University, Fukuoka University, and Kobe University also contribute faculty members.

3. Practice-Oriented New Education

By studying major field and its relevant minor field, students can develop an elastic way of thinking, as well as find insights by which they can utilize advanced specialties for practical applications.

4. Long-Term Internshipm

A three-month internship is offered at car manufactures and other related automobile sectors with the intent of improving the students’ accomplishment levels at their specialties though actual involvement in car manufacturing. These internships also help students develop their research themes.

5. Human Resource Development with a Concept of Globalization

In order to improve students’ English communication skills, the Department offers “Seminor on International Communication” for master’s students and “Advanced Seminor on International Communication” for doctral students as one of the compulsory subjects. This seminor is conducted only in English, and each student is required to make a presentation on his/her research followed by an open discussion.
